Callers and Cuers at the Paul Place Memorial Dance
All proceeds from the Memorial Dance went to The Paul Place Scholarship Fund, administered by the CallerLab Foundation. Over $1,800 was raised for the scholarship fund for caller training.
Linda Place traveled to Florida from her new home in Alabama to attend the tribute to her late husband.
Eight callers and three cuers attended and donated their time and talents to make this a very special dance. The callers were John Swindle, Whit Brown, Sonny McCartney, Bob Poyner, Jerry Reed, Bob Stern, Bob Wilson, and Roland Morin. The round dance cuers were Irene Knapp-Smith, Dick Nordine, and Jan Shankle.
Before the second tip The Traveling Hoedowners, who recorded 3 square dance DVDs with Paul, approached the stage. Debbie Popson, as spokesman for the group, gave a short tribute to Paul and presented a donation check to Jerry Reed and John Swindle of the CallerLab Foundation for The Paul Place Scholarship Fund.
Danny and Linda Courtney won the large 50/50 drawing, and generously donated their winnings back to the scholarship fund.
Jim and Lili-Ann Gallagher initiated and helped to organize this event. Lili-Ann and others also donated several beautiful fruit baskets, flower arrangements and other nice items for door prizes.
The Traveling Hoedowners wish to thank the Dixie Squares for hosting this dance, as well as all the callers, cuers, organizers, dancers, and everyone who donated to this worthy cause.
Photos of this first annual Paul Place Memorial Dance can be seen on The Traveling Hoedowners website.
